About the Opportunity
Are you passionate about cultural heritage and collection management? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a flair for storytelling through exhibitions and programming?
The City of Melville is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Curator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support the management, interpretation, and promotion of our Museum and Local History collections, helping to preserve and share Melville’s rich cultural heritage with the community.
Location: Wireless Hill
Salary: $82,931.49 to $87,934.61 pro-rata p.a. + 11.5% Super
Employment Type: Permanent, Part Time (0.8FTE)
What You’ll Be Doing
- Administer and maintain museum collection systems, including accessioning, documentation, and object handling
- Research and develop curatorial content for exhibitions, displays, and digital platforms
- Assist in the design and installation of exhibitions across multiple sites
- Collaborate on the planning and delivery of public programs and events
- Support the investigation and implementation of technology to connect diverse audiences with the museum's collections, exhibitions and programs
- Support day-to-day museum operations, including volunteer coordination and event delivery
What We’re Looking For
- A qualification in Arts, Cultural Heritage, Museum Studies or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in managing and documenting cultural heritage collections
- Strong research, writing and communication skills
- Practical experience with museum or heritage exhibition development and installation
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of conservation practices and museum policies
